Macworld 2009

Today Phil Schiller gave the Macworld keynote address at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. He introduced iLife 09, iWork 09 alongside the iWork.com beta, a new 17-inch MacBook Pro, announced variable pricing on individual songs on the iTunes Store, that all songs will be DRM-free by April and music downloads to the iPhone over the 3G network. Most (okay, all) of the announcements were expected. The most significant updates in iLife 09 are to iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand. iWork 09 includes updates to all three apps and integration with the iWork.com free beta, which allows for browser-based sharing of iWork documents between Mac and PC users. The 17-inch MacBook Pro is ultra-thin and includes a non-removable, longer-lasting battery, both in day-to-day battery life and charge cycles. There were no announcements about Snow Leopard and no updates to any of Apple's desktops. Next up is their first quarter fiscal 2009 earnings conference call which hasn't been officially announced yet, but should take place on January 20.
